Summary

The BAM Companies is seeking a paralegal to join our rapidly growing team of motivated, enthusiastic, and efficient employees. This position is intended to provide support to the current General Counsel and others in the future as the legal department grows. The role is one that is key to the organization and whomever steps into it will assist with the various activities of the department including acquisitions of new properties and the sale of old properties.

Essential Job Functions

  • Review and analyze title, survey and zoning information on real estate assets to be financed.
  • Interface with title companies, surveyors and zoning consultants to address issues that arise in the process of financing and refinancing properties.
  • Work with lenders counsel and loan servicers on loan origination related issues.
  • Assist counsel in documenting and closing financing facilities.
  • Assist in the administration of certain legal compliance protocols (e.g., OFAC compliance program).
  • Create and maintain hard copy and electronic files for departmental documents.
  • Interface with other departments, including property management, tax, and information systems.
  • Assist in administrative duties within the Legal Finance department.

Required Education and Experience

  • Must have proficient knowledge of Microsoft programs, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with title, survey and legal finance terminology.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  •  A bachelor’s degree, but the candidate may have a paralegal certificate.
  • At least three years paralegal experience with an in-house legal department or a law firm, including working on real estate financings
  • An active notary commission/license

 

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position; hours of work will vary Monday – Friday.

 

Travel

This is a primarily local assignment during the business day, although some out-of-area travel may be expected.
